This book starts quickly and doesn't let up! This is a spin-off from the WDKY series, but it is a very different feel. The doc and his family are supposed to be heading out on an elk hunt. Dad(doc) is really excited and so is the pre-teen son. The teenage daughter wants to stay with her friends and hopefully see or talk to a boy she is interested in; definitely less than thrilled about the trip. And mom? No desire to go. Doesn't like anything about hunting. Mom stays home, dad and kids go and all hell breaks loose on both fronts! The story is told from multiple viewpoints and it works very well. Pre-order is available for the next book and I am ready for it to show up on my reader now. I never knew how deeply I'd get into a plot that is, for all practical purposes, a more contemporary version of a Western. But the author sure made it work!The scenes were intense yet plausible, and the behaviors of people in life-threatening situations were true to their respective characters. It was nice that the author gave us more than just passing glimpses of their character and ethics.These are a lot different from her beautiful tropical islands books but still keep the pages turning fast! Can't get enough of this author!I've committed to doing some editing for two writers next, and one draft of revisions on my own current project, but Snake Oil might just sneak its way higher up my list! What's another sleepless night or two?Keep that suspense coming, Mrs. Hutchins! I love it!
